ABOUT

WE’RE COMPLETING THE GUTENBERG REVOLUTION

Welcome to BOOKS 4 EVERYONE, dedicated to completing the Gutenberg Revolution. Before Gutenberg’s invention in 1439 of moveable metal type for printing, it took about three years for a moderately well-off family to save up for the parchment, copying, illuminating, and binding of a Bible.

Gutenberg’s invention dropped the price of printing books. By 1500 there were publishing houses in every city in Europe and and since then books became affordable in every language where it’s profitable for publishers to market those books. That leaves out 95% of the world’s 7000 languages.

Across the world, indigenous people abandon their ancestral languages because those languages offer no economic benefits.

If people abandon their language for economic reasons, then economic reasons must be found to make them want to keep their language.

BOOKS 4 EVERYONE is a one-stop market for books in indigenous languages. Authors of the books we publish have access to the books as PDFs free of charge. Others pay $5, with contributions going directly to the authors of the books or their heirs.
