This 56-page book contains 28 poems in Mixe and Spanish, by Palemón Vargas from the Mixe-speaking village of Tlahuitoltepec in the Sierra Juárez. About 134,000 people speak one or more of the Mixe languages of Mexico. The author’s language, Tlahutoltepec Mixe, is spoken by about 16,000 people in Tlahuitoltepec, San Pedro y San Pablo Ayutla, and Tamazulapán, with dialects in Tepuxtepec, Tepantlali, and Mixistlán. The poems alternate in Mixe and Spanish.
