LA ALIMENTACIÓN MIXTECA EN LA COSTA DE OAXACA

This 375-page, heavily illustrated ethnography of Mixtec food is written in both Coastal Mixtec and Spanish, with the two languages in facing columns. The paragraphs are numbered in both the Mixtec and Spanish editions, making it easier for students of Mixtec to see how the author translated each segment. The 12 chapters cover dishes made with corn, wild and domesticated fruits and vegetables, sweet potatoes, seeds and condiments, and leaves for preparing wrapped dishes (like tamales). Three chapters describe the preparation of foods made with insects, reptiles, and birds. In 2015, there were about 518,000 speakers of one or more Mixtec languages in Mexico, including about 30,000 speakers of Coastal Mixtec.
